Dissertation // National Art Library

During the summer holidays I joined the National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum to help me with research for my dissertation and it has been really helpful to get me started and to just have somewhere with an extensive catalogue of art books  and thesis’ that the university library might not have, trying to get research from anywhere I can.

I’ve been twice again this week to research for my dissertation topic: the commercialisation of mythical creatures and more specifically mermaids, and found some interesting books on mermaids in art and architecture, particularly in Venice and also places where they had appeared else where. I thought starting with the origins of mermaids and work my way to the present.

Being able to go to somewhere like the V&A and sit in it’s beautiful library is a luxury to me even though it is free and a public library but I always feel very focused when I’m there and I tend to get quite a bit done, even if it is just reading!

No doubt I will be there quite a lot through out the year for both dissertation and probably for my final major project too.
